RRSP/PRPP deduction limit - definition

This refers to the maximum amount of RRSP/PRPP contributions that you are entitled to deduct in a tax year to your own or your spouse or common-law partner's RRSPs/PRPPs. It is based, in part, on your previous year's earned income (excluding transfers to your RRSP/PRPP of certain types of qualifying income). Pension adjustments (PAs), past service pension adjustments (PSPAs), pension adjustment reversals (PARs), contributions to a Specified Pension Plan (SPP), and your unused RRSP/PRPP deduction room, are also used to calculate the limit.

For 2025, the maximum contribution limit is $32,490. However, if you did not use all of your RRSP/PRPP deduction limit for the years 1991 to 2024, the CRA adds the amount you did not use to 2025. Therefore, your RRSP/PRPP deduction limit for 2025 could be more than $32,490.

Your RRSP/PRPP deduction limit for 2025 is shown on your Notice of Assessment or Notice of Reassessment for 2024, or, if CRA sent you one, on Form T1028, Your RRSP/PRPP Information for 2025.
